MODELLING FOR PUBLIC ELECTRICITY INFRASTRUCTURE AND URBAN DEVELOPMENT STOCK: A CASE STUDY OF UYO URBAN, AKWA IBOM STATE, NIGERIA

Abstract
Purpose: The aim of the study was to develop a model for public electricity infrastructure and
urban development stock in Uyo, Akwa Ibom State.
Design/methodology/approach: Data was collected through field surveys using structured questionnaire to elicit responses from the respondents in the study area. Physical enumeration was carried out to identify all electricity infrastructure available and all urban development stock in the study area, and their relative demand on public electricity was determined using an ideally estimated daily electricity supply of 18 hours. Multiple regression analysis was used to determine the relationship between the variables measured in the study.
Findings: Result of the study revealed that public electricity infrastructure development was found to be at its lowest ebb and erratic, not able to meet the ever-increasing demand to meet the socio-economic needs of the people.
Research limitations/Implications: Systematic provision electricity infrastructure with facts and figures, rather than using the present-day random approach so as to match the demand with supply requirements and efficient infrastructure supply prediction model developed are recommended for public electricity infrastructure development in the study area.
Originality/value – Based on the findings of the study, it is concluded that the provision of public electricity power infrastructure in Uyo urban is inadequate and cannot meet the demands of residents.
